In 2021, ACS Brazosport, the local chapter of the ACS (American Chemical Society), reached out and recognized the need for a more user-friendly website to manage and update events, attract new members, and showcase awards and recognitions. However, being a non-profit organization operated entirely by full-time scientists, they faced constraints in terms of both resources and time to bring about this change. They invited me to lead the effort and revamp their existing website, which was previously hosted on Wix.com, with the goal of making improvements without causing significant disruption.

👈☝️The team was mostly using flyers attached to newsletters to announce events and activities.

At the outset, I initiated a Zoom call with the team to gain insight into their challenges and what they envisioned for the new website. Then I established a collaborative Miro board for the team, encouraging each member to contribute by listing their desired features for the upcoming website (as shown in the screenshot below).

From above practice, it’s clear that being hard to manage newsletters and events was a huge pain point for the team. So following this, I organized and categorized the requests, which provided the foundational direction for the overhaul of the website.

Unlike some of my previous projects, this team emphasized that artistic and creative elements were not their primary objective. Their main focus was on achieving a website that is both simple and clean, prioritizing ease of navigation and maintenance. I took this goal to heart and executed the website accordingly. I'm delighted to share that the team expressed great satisfaction with the final result.
